Why It Happens
Resin can adhere to LCD screens due to damage to the nFEP film, overflows, or remnants from resin printing projects. This sticky residue not only obstructs your view but can also damage the screen if not handled properly.
Safety First!
Before starting the clean-up, ensure to:
Unplug and Power Down: Always turn off and unplug the device to prevent any electrical issues.
Protect Yourself: Use gloves and, if necessary, a mask to avoid inhaling fumes, especially if using solvents.
Tools You’ll Need
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA): Preferably 70% or higher.
Cotton Pads or Cloth: Use lint-free options to prevent scratches.
Tapes: Effective for removing cured resin residue.
Microfiber Cloth: For final cleaning.
Step-by-Step Guide to Remove Resin from LCD Screens
Initial Inspection
Assess the Screen: Start by inspecting the extent of the resin residue on the LCD screen. Determine if it is a thin layer or consists of larger blobs, as this will dictate the cleaning method's intensity and duration.
Applying Isopropyl Alcohol
Prepare the Isopropyl Alcohol: Dampen a cotton pad or cloth with 95% isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Be cautious not to oversaturate the cloth to avoid dripping.
Cover the Screen: Place soaked paper towels over the areas with cured resin. This helps to soften the resin, making it easier to remove.
Seal and Wait: Reattach the cover or any protective casing so that the IPA does not evaporate. Allow the paper towels to sit on the screen for 1 to 2 hours. The alcohol will help penetrate the resin and loosen its grip on the screen.
Use Tape
Remove cured Resin:
After the waiting period, use adhesive tape (like painter's tape or masking tape) to gently lift off the softened resin.
Press the tape down firmly and then pull it off quickly. You may need to repeat this multiple times to fully remove all resin, especially if some areas are particularly stubborn.
Final Touches
Buff the Screen: Once all visible resin is removed, take a microfiber cloth and lightly buff the screen. This step helps eliminate any streaks from the alcohol or residues and restores the screen's clarity.
Inspect for Residue
Final Inspection: Check the screen under good lighting conditions to ensure that no resin is left behind. If you still see residue, consider repeating the cleaning process or addressing any remaining stubborn areas with additional IPA and tape.
Prevention Tips
Use Protective Covers: When working with resin or similar materials, consider using protective covers for your devices.
Be Cautious: Always work with resin in a controlled space to minimise spills.
Regular Maintenance: Regularly clean your screens to prevent build-up of materials.
