1. What Could Be Causing Issues with My 3D Print?
At first look, it may appear that nothing has been printed, despite having configured everything according to Phrozen’s Official Resin Profile and properly slicing the file in your Slicer Software. You may observe that the 3D model is not adhering to the build plate and is instead clinging to the release film (FEP, nFEP, ACF).
This email will provide you with insights into the potential reasons for the printing failure and ways to fix it.
2. What Leads to Printing Problems?
When a 3D model fails to adhere to the build plate and falls into the resin vat, it typically indicates an adhesion issue. Several factors may contribute to this problem. Essentially, this situation arises when the suction force keeping the 3D model attached to the FEP or PFA (nFEP) film exceeds the suction force between the build plate and the model. This imbalance results in the model losing its hold on the build plate and inadvertently dropping into the vat. Here are the four main causes of adhesion failure:
Incorrect settings in Chitubox
The surface of the build plate is too smooth
The build plate is not properly levelled
The temperature is unsuitable
The surface of the build plate is uneven
N.B: If there is no cured resin present on the building plate or in the resin vat, please inspect the LCD screen and the LED of your printer.
3. Before Proceeding
Prior to printing again, it's essential to clear the cured resin from the resin vat. If you are having difficulty removing cured resin from the FEP or PFA (nFEP) film, please consult this article for assistance.
4. Troubleshooting Adhesion Issues
To address this printing problem, please follow these adjustments:
Recalibrate the Z-axis: Refer to this article for proper Z-axis calibration guidelines.
Increase Bottom Exposure Time: Extending the bottom exposure time can enhance adhesion between the model and the build plate. For larger models or when printing across the entire build plate, increase the bottom exposure time by 20%.
Reduce Lifting Speed: Set the lifting speed to below 40 mm/min.
Adjust Rest Time: Decrease the rest time or modify the light-off delay using the Auto Calculator.
Check Build Plate Levelness: Use a ruler placed diagonally across the build plate. Shine a light from behind to assess its evenness.
Prepare the Build Plate Surface: Sand the build plate with 80-grit sandpaper and check its roughness with your fingertip.
